Top three website mistakes to avoid

So, my top three website mistakes to avoid. I'm Richard, Richard Dawson, a Digital Marketing Coach.

This is my weekly digital marketing update. So when it comes to website mistakes to avoid, I've worked with probably hundreds of clients. These are the top three website mistakes that I see. You can avoid these. There are many others, but these are the top three in my opinion.

Firstly spending too much on your first website or your early websites. So putting too much of a budget into that In my view is wrong. I think you should go for something really simple. Preferably go for one of the self-build packages that are much more cost-effective because you're going to learn so much from your first website and you will have wasted the budget on something too expensive and you won't want to change it because of that.

So perhaps go for using WordPress or a self-build package from GoDaddy OR Squarespace. These are excellent. I would probably recommend Squarespace. It’s the one I prefer. I’ll put a discount code for Squarespace in the comments if you want to have a go with them.So why not give that a try. So don't spend too much on your first website.

So the second mistake is choosing a cheap hosting provider where the hosting for your website is too slow. Again, if you go with the likes of GoDaddy, Squarespace and many other top names, it should be good at the right speed and everything should load reasonably quickly. But check their average load times and check the hosting spec, get some kind of measure of whether it's effective for you because that's really important both from a user experience POV and also, of course, Google doesn't like slow loading websites.

The third mistake is making it too complicated. Putting too much content on the website. So just too many pages, too much depth, too many images making. It looks cluttered with lots of content, making it harder to navigate etc. Keep it simple. If you can keep it down to five, six, seven pages, and a blog. The blog is where you can put the in-depth content and the technical stuff, and it's great for SEO as well as we've discussed before.

So those are the 3 top website mistakes that I see and hopefully how to avoid them. There are others if you want to know the next three, why don't you tag me in the comments and I'll message you with them.
